Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff Permanent Joint Headquarters (DACOS Med PJHQ), Captain Matt Faye Royal Navy.

Matt joined the Royal Navy in November 1998 as a Medical Assistant. Following training, he served in RFA Argus, HMS Montrose, HMS Leeds Castle and HMS Cumberland. In 2008, he attended Britannia Royal Naval College commissioning as a Medical Services (MS) Officer.

 His early career as a MS Officer saw time in Faslane as a Medical Administration Officer before deploying as Medical Liaison Officer with 2 Royal Gurkha Regiment based in Musa Qala during HERRICK 9. Following this period, he worked as a Senior Leadership Training Officer at the Royal Navy Leadership Academy.

 A series of medical operational support and capability management jobs followed, highlights include SO3 Medical Ops Navy Command Headquarters (NCHQ), SO2 Medical Plans for the Maritime Battle Staff which incorporated a secondment to EUNAVFOR and a period as NATO NATO Maritime Component Command Med Advisor. This was followed by time as SO2 Joint Medical Capability in JFC, where he was responsible for SG’s equipment and sustainment funding. In 2016 he was fortunate to be selected as Executive Assistant to 2* Assistant Chief Naval Staff (Support) in Navy Command HQ (NCHQ).

Promoted to Commander in mid-2017, he served as SO1 Medical Force Generation in NCHQ where he was responsible for the generation of RN medical capabilities and assurance of all RN generated medical plans. This was followed by attendance on Advanced Command and Staff Course (ACSC), during which he completed an MA in Defence Studies from King’s College London. On completion of ACSC, Matt was appointed as the Commanding Officer, Maritime Deployed Hospital Group. During his period in command, the team regenerated the Maritime Role 3 capability on RFA ARGUS demonstrating its utility at sea in a CJEF Task Group and deployed Role 2 Afloat capabilities in support of the UK Carrier Strike Groups.

In May 21, on promotion to Captain, he took up post as AH Med Cap Strat in MOD within HQ DMS where his responsibilities included Medical Capability Strategy, Interoperability, Chairmanship of the NATO Medical Standardisation WG and JEF Medical WGs. He took up post as DACOS Med PJHQ in September 2022. He is married to Ruth, a Primary School Teacher and has two energetic children Mollie and Samuel. His interests include, current affairs, cycling, stand-up paddle boarding and he is a keen rugby supporter
