Colonel Michelle Flores is the Director for the Defense Institute of Medical Operations (DIMO) at Joint Base San Antonio, Lackland AFB. DIMO customizes global health education and training programs to meet mission needs of security cooperation through mobile training teams and in-resident courses. DIMO supports health initiatives and builds strong, resilient international military partnerships through world-class, hands-on medical training courses. Together with a diverse staff and volunteer subject matter experts, DIMO strives to make lasting impacts in global health and to support Partner Nation, U.S. Embassy, and Combatant/Component Command objectives which contribute to our national security goals. Colonel Flores was born in Germany. She completed Army ROTC as the Distinguished Graduate from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and minor in Chemistry. She completed a master’s Program at Texas A&M and received her Doctor of Medicine degree at Baylor Medical School in Houston, Texas. A board certified Pediatric Infectious Disease Physician, Colonel Flores completed a Pediatric Residency at Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, Washington. She completed her fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the National Naval Medical Consortium in Bethesda, MD. She has served in various clinical leader roles as well as Chief of Medical Staff. Her international experience includes 11 years in overseas assignments as well as a 13-month deployment to Afghanistan. She has been a part of multiple mobile training teams around the world, fostering and strengthening partner nation and U.S. relationships, in support of U.S. strategic/operational objectives around the world in global health. She regularly serves as a senior leader for discussions with partner nation militaries to develop partner nation and U.S. global health objectives/goals. Prior to her current position she was the Executive Director of the TRICARE Overseas Eurasia-Africa office with responsibility for ensuring quality medical care for 209,000 TRICARE
beneficiaries in the EUCOM, AFRICOM and CENTCOM areas of responsibility.
